There are two types of people

I have, today, been to quite an exciting and entertaining meeting of the London Blog Club where a strange ranty lady extolled the virtues of being strange and ranty and a lady. Unfortunately, I fail to qualify on all three counts.
But I did, in a roundabout way, learn a lot about communication.
Granted, a big ego can entertain a room, and strange ranty lady did get quite a few laughs and seemed to get away with a good deal of profanity. However, I am not sure that she had a message …

Technology Thursday
I have had a computerised to do list for a long time now. However, at work there has still been a lingering feeling that you can judge how much work has to be done, by the amount of paper lying around.
Where I work we went paperless on 1 Jan 2008, that’s nearly two years ago. However, we still receive paperwork from lots of clients, and our hybrid system …

More Profit in Less Time – The Wednesday Tip
October has been an extraordainary month, with far reaching changes at Royal Mail, at Companies House, and to my own e-mail servers. You can read about all of that elsewhere in this blog. There has also been a knock on effect which has led to fundamental changes in my business calendar and to co-incidental modifications to my regular social calendar.

Tuesday Financial Focus
I am told that in any organisation, you can divide the people into three groups:

33% of the people know what the goal is, but not their role.
33% of the people know what their role is, but not the goal.
33% of the people know nothing!

How many meetings have I attended where that mantra holds true? And imagine if your favourite football team worked in that way? Oh, they …

The biggest reason is that “they don’t know how”.
How do you make beans on toast? You probably know already! How do you make a lemon meringue? If you don’t know, you go and look it up in a recipe book, or on the internet. And that’s the principle that we all need to follow, whether we’re in business, or following a …

More Profit in Less Time – The Wednesday Tip
Productivity relies upon dedication and an unswerving commitment to be focused. Surprising then, that one of the most productive species on the planet is a small plant called a fireweed! After a forest fire, the fireweed is the first plant to regenerate.

The success of the fireweed lies in its “ability” to put the past behind it, and just get on with …

Friday Feedback
Chapter 3 in Stephen Covey’s book 7 Habits is entitled “Put first things first” and it could equally have been entitled “Don’t try to do everything at once”.
When we take time to think about it we often realise that less is more. Focus on fewer, more important tasks, and just get them done. We will feel a lot more satisfied with that as opposed to having many half …

More Profit in Less Time – The Wednesday Tip
The biggest reason that people don’t do things, is because they don’t know how! That’s a view put forward by most of the coaching fraternity. Personally, I think the second biggest reason is that a task can seem too big and daunting. That’s where Dean Martin says that you have chunk it down until the whole task is made up of …
